It seems that whenever there is a news cycle at the moment, we are hearing about the loss of people we have admired and loved from afar that have died of cancer. People who have been part of our lives for so long that we somehow imagined they would always be here.

People like Dolly Parton, whose kindness and generosity matched her extraordinary musical talent; Richard Scolyer, a brilliant mind who devoted his life to understanding cancer; and Johnny Young, who championed generations of young Australian talent and, in doing so, helped soundtrack our lives — all lost to cancer.
The loss of people like these reminds us of all of those we have loved and lost to cancer in our own lives.

And as September rolls around each year, we are reminded of our much-loved friend and colleague, Dave Willis, who passed away this month, back in 2004, from a secondary cancer with an unknown primary.

You may know of Dave through the Crazy Dave sale we hold this month, each year in his memory, raising money for a cancer charity or organisation making a difference. You may remember him from his years serving you at the winery or, if you were lucky enough, you knew Dave as a friend or as a much-loved Dad, Brother or Partner.

Dave died in 2004, but every September the Crazy Dave Sale gives us a reason to remember him and to continue doing something positive in his name.

This year, after many years of supporting the wonderful GI Cancer Institute (now GI Cancer Trials), we have chosen to direct our fundraising towards the Leukaemia Foundation, a national Australian charity that primarily relies on public donations, community fundraising events, and bequests, receiving almost no ongoing government funding.

There are over 120 different types of blood cancer and related disorders and the Leukaemia Foundation is there to help people diagnosed with them, providing care and information from diagnosis onwards — including emotional and financial assistance, accommodation, transport and resources to help them and their loved ones understand their cancer.

Every day, 53 Australians are diagnosed with a blood cancer. That is why we need to keep supporting organisations like the Leukaemia Foundation, so they can continue to be there for the people and families who need them.

$7 of each Crazy Dave pack we sell during the sale this year will be donated to the the Leukaemia Foundation. We encourage you to purchase a pack (or three) so we can donate as much money as we can. We are paying for the freight on these packs to most parts of Australia and our Wine Club members are eligible for a 10% discount on each pack.
