15 years ago, Beth Tidd from Corowa came to us with an idea. She wanted to repurpose our used screw caps from the bottles we pour you at the cellardoor, to make pin cushions. She was hoping to sell them to raise money for the Corowa Federation Museum. We thought it was a wonderful idea and suggested we could sell them at our cellardoor.
Beth carefully matched fabrics with the screw cap colours and found so many different beautiful patterns and materials to use. She then dropped them off for us to sell.
Days became weeks. Weeks became months. Months became years. We just kept selling them. When COVID came along and we were not allowed to touch, handle or pick up items in stores, we housed each little pin cushion in a clear plastic compartment box…and still we sold them.
15 years on and Beth came in with a cake earlier this year to celebrate us selling 8,000 of these treasured pin cushions (and of course, Beth making that many). Wow!! How amazing is that.
Thank you to each and every one of you who have generously popped $2 into Beth’s jar for her to come and collect each couple of months. May there be many more pin cushions in the years to come. Thanks for the lovely cake, Beth and thanks for making our treasured pin cushions for all of these years.
